What is a gander?

A gander is a male goose. They are usually larger in size than female geese and have a distinctive long neck with a bulbous head. Ganders have a deep, honking call that they use to communicate with their flock or to sound an alarm. They are highly territorial and will fiercely defend their mate and offspring. Ganders are social animals and live in flocks, where they form close bonds with other geese. They usually mate for life and take turns incubating their eggs and caring for their young. Ganders mainly eat grass, grain, and water plants, and they are important to humans for their meat, feathers, and eggs.
